Why your business isn’t getting Leads from its website (and how to fix it)

Your website looks fine, people visit it, and yet the your inbox is quiet. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and the problem is almost never the thing business owners assume it is.
A website that doesn’t bring in enquiries is usually built just to look good rather than built to convert. Below are the most common reasons a business website fails to generate leads, and exactly how to fix each one.
1. Visitors Don’t Understand What You Do in 5 Seconds
When someone lands on your homepage, they decide within seconds whether they’re in the right place. If your headline talks about your “passion for excellence” instead of what you actually offer and who it’s for, they leave.
The fix: lead with a plain, specific sentence. What you do, who it’s for, and the result. A roofing company in Zürich should say exactly that, not “crafting trusted spaces since 1998.” Clarity beats cleverness every time.
2. There’s No Obvious Next Step
Many sites bury the way to get in touch. A contact link in the footer is not a call to action. If a visitor has to hunt for how to reach you, they most won’t bother.
The fix: put one clear action in front of people, repeatedly. “Book a free call,” “Request a quote,” “Get an estimate.” Place it in the top navigation, after every major section, and at the end of the page. One primary action that they can see often while navigating.
3. It Doesn’t Build Enough Trust
Customers are becoming careful. Before they contact you, they want proof that you’re credible and that other people like them have had a good experience.
The fix: add real signals of trust where decisions happen:
Genuine testimonials with names and companies
Recognisable client or partner logos
A few concrete results or before/after examples
A real photo of you or your team, not stock images
4. Nobody Can Find It in the First Place
A beautiful website that doesn’t appear when people search for your service is a brochure no one reads. If you only get traffic from people who already know your name, you have a visibility problem, not a design problem.
The fix: build pages around the things your customers actually search for, your service plus your city or region. “Marketing agency Zürich,” “bookkeeping for SMEs Bern,” and so on. Each core service deserves its own page, written in plain language, so search engines and humans both understand it.
5. It’s Slow, or Awkward on a Phone
Most of your visitors arrive on a phone. If the site loads slowly, text is hard to read, or buttons are tricky to tap, people leave before they ever consider contacting you, and Google notices too.
The fix: make sure the site is fast, properly optimised, and genuinely comfortable to use on mobile. This single change often recovers leads you didn’t know you were losing.
6. Enquiries Go Nowhere
Sometimes the leads are coming in, but they fall through the cracks: a form that emails an inbox nobody checks, no confirmation to the visitor, no fast follow-up. A quick professional response is key to get the job.
The fix: connect your forms to a simple system that notifies you instantly, confirms receipt to the customer, and makes it easy to reply within hours, not days.
A Quick Self-Check
Open your own website on your phone and ask:
Is it instantly clear what I offer and to whom?
Is there one obvious way to contact me, visible right away?
Would a stranger trust this enough to reach out?
Does it load fast and feel easy on mobile?
Every “no” is a something we can help you fix to increase contacts and leads.
Turn Your Website Into a Source of Leads
You don’t necessarily need a brand-new website. Often, a focused round of changes to your message, calls to action, trust signals, and visibility is enough to start generating real enquiries.
If you’d like an honest assessment of why your site isn’t converting, and what would actually move the needle, we’re happy to take a look.
